Stewart becomes fourth different Modified winner in four races at Brockville in 2010
BROCKVILLE-Brockville Ontario Speedway is now four weeks into the 2010 racing season and the Beast of the East has yet to see a repeat winner in the headline 358 Modified division. Bath's Todd Stewart added his name to the list of checkered flag holders taking the lead with five laps to go and holding on from there for the victory on Kemptville Truck Centre night.
Jason Riddell's quest for a modified win looked like it might come true for awhile. Riddell led the first 25 laps including a time holding off first Danny O Brien and then Stewart. A restart with 6 to go proved to be the break that Stewart needed as he quickly went on the attack on the low side of the race track getting past Riddell for the lead and then finishing the job by a car and a half at the finish line. Pat O Brien was third with Gage Morin and Stephane LaFrance rounding out the fast five.
The other three regular divisions have had one dominant force that has taken 3 of the 4 events. In the sportsman, two time defending DIRT champion Chris Raabe continues to be the guy to beat. The Queen's University student started fourth and quickly went to the front in capturing the Brockville portion of King of the North County part one. Mike Mainse could keep pace with the 01 but never close enough to challenge in grabbing second followed by Chris Herbison, Dana Aikins and Shane Pecore.
Chris isnt the only Raabe winning races in 2010. Todd Raabe of Pembroke is also 3 for 4 as he took the Street Stock portion of the King of the North Country challenge. Raabe got to the top spot quickly, only to give it up briefly to Eli Gilbert before taking it back and outdistancing Derek Cryderman for the win. Kevin Fetterly Jr. was third in front of Guy Reginbald and Derrick Eaton.
Jean Marc Larose copped his third Rookie class win with a car that seemed to be slowing in the closing laps. Chris Lloyd closed in but had to settle for second with Dwight Feltham, Ron Day and Joe McNichols in tow. Jason Powers was the winner in the 12 lap Vintage clash.
Meanwhile on Wednesday, the go karters took centre stage. Megan Clancy passed her brother on the final lap to win the Junior Sportsman 1 class event. Colton Craig was tops in Stock. Alex Blasko grabbed Junior Restricted honours. Ryan MacIntosh was the Box stock winner. Kathryn Farbotnik-Wilson with a last lap pass of her own beat the Junior Sportsman 2 honours. Braeden Nicholl-Carne took the Rookie race. The Go karts return to action on Wednesday night at 7pm.
Next Saturday night, June 12th features a Modified-Sprint Car twin bill. The ASCS sprints will be in town for their first visit of 2010. The wheeled warriors always produce big excitement and big crowds when they try to tame the Beast of the East. The Mods, Sportsman, Street Stocks and Rookies will all also be in action. The first green flag drops at 7 pm.
